CW3 Tania Nichole Dunbar

CW3; United States Army

December 6, 1974 - July 19, 2015

CW3 Tania Nichole Dunbar was born in Santa Barbara, California on December 6, 1974.

She served her country for 17 years rising though the ranks of the United States Army to Chief Warrant Officer 3.  Tania was dedicated to equality and freedom for all.   She was highly outspoken and was a leader of leaders!  She was a Chapter Leader in OutServe-SLDN for OS Ladies prior to Co-Founding SPARTA in 2013.    She helped to lead the way to the repeal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy as part of the Comprehensive Working Group.   She also helped lead the way for Marriage Equality.   Never believing in the word "No," Tania was the fiercest of advocates for the LGBT Community!  Everyone that knew her affectionately called her "Chief"-a tribute to her rank of CW3.

Chief was preceded in death by her father Herman Dunbar.  Chief is survived by her wife Deborah Graham-Dunbar and children Michelle and Elijah.  Her Mother Michelle Anderson and Step-Father Ken Anderson; Uncles Stefan Windroth, Ronnie and Dee Bryant; Aunt Alicia O'Neil; Cousins Molly, Katie, Sarah, Elijah, Emma, Dennis, David, and Milo.  She is also survived by a host of friends, fellow service members, and other family members that carry on her legacy and memory!

Tania was my friend and mentor. She was a Co-Founder for SPARTA. She was dedicated and loving. Although she had a rough and tough exterior—-anyone that truly knew her knew she had a large heart made of gold. She was funny. She was a Mother, Solider, Daughter, Wife, and Mentor….Most of all she was genuine. She will always be missed by me. I love and miss you mama.
